why does mine wear out every 6 months -------is there an upgrade or modification to help???

Can i use a Gen 11 arm ?

Yes you can use a gen 2 arm. Look up the a post from the username dirtdriver. Fattony also did the swap.

You get a whole 6 months? You're doing good. It should be on the 6000 mile service list to replace the bushings. Note the gen2 idler arm is tougher, but not rebuildable. There was some talk of machining tougher bushings. I also seem to remember somebody who used another steering box on the pside, since their pitmann shaft location is much more robust. I don't know if they used a rhd box, or if a JY lhd stering box will fit (minus the steering wheel shaft of course in both cases...)

I have found that the OEM factory bushings seem to last a bit longer than the aftermarket parts.

I just get a new one every 6 months from my local auto parts store, a/c delco makes it and it has a 12/12 warranty.
they just keep replacing it for free.....................

Here is some picture of the steering box idler arm.
The box is witout power steering and some is cut off and blended off, the arm are turned 180 degrees.

Gen 2 arm bolts on with very little or no modification. (I cut off the extra mounting tab, which wasn't really necessary) Seems to be much better than the Gen 1 arm, took a whole summer of me beating on it (and I do mean beating) and it's still tight as the day I put it on. Check out this thread for some pics of mine.
