The past few weeks I have been a little out of line. Saying things and postings things that are inapporiate. I want to apologize for how I have been acting. The past few weeks have been kinnda hectic and I have been a little stressed out. Alright. Now to the point of this post. I am in the market for another 4wd. I need something to drive in the snow to work. As well as do a build on over time. Rock sliders, bumpers, snorkle, all the goodies. And a SAS seeing how I have a dd now. And this is a much better platform for sas with the v6 and rear locker and it already is linked in the rear I have been looking at Monteros again. In particular the SR model. The rear locker and disc breaks are a good option I like. ![[Linked Image]](http://images.autotrader.com/images/2008/6/25/246/884/7635360548.246884180.IM1.03.565x421_A.562x421.jpg) Found this one locally. 88k on the clock. Fully loaded. I know on the 3.5 engines you look at valve seals and change the timing belt but is there anythinng else guys? Thanks guys

Found this one locally. 88k on the clock. Fully loaded. I know on the 3.5 engines you look at valve seals and change the timing belt but is there anythinng else guys? Actually Valve seals are a problem on both the 3.0L v6 SOHC and the 3.5L v6 DOHC that i can remember. Don't recall the other versions of these engines. 88k is an awesome amount of mileage for a 12-13yr old vehicle. I'd be sure the timing belt is done or was done at 60k though as you've already suggested. Also, the spark plugs (one in particular) can be a pain on this model but it's doable w/out removing the intake plenum w/ the appropriate sockets/joints. Also the intake plenum butterfly valve has an issue as well with it's plastic parts that wear with time/age. How much are they selling it for? Hopefully not too much with the recent spike for gas.

I will look into all that Ray. But the spark plugs can't be any worse then the 3.8 in my car.
They are asking just shy of 6k. I am gonna see if I can get them down.
I'll keep you guys updated.

What? Who? ... what have you done with Chris and who are you?
J/k man, they are good all around trucks, but different strokes for different folks. Granted, they will require some work to become more capable, and even more work to become extraordinary, but its a good truck. You arent new to the Montero, so no need for me to tell you all this. Best of luck with the nego. Awesome miles too

Hooray, Chris is back!!
What year is it? Nice looking truck. What Ray said about the valve guide seals is right, although I urge you to be cautious even if it is young enough to have a 3.5L 24v SOHC like mine because my valve guide seal are weak at 140k. I get a little puff on blue smoke when pulling away from a stop light and it will smoke during a long idle, which I just avoid. I'm looking to get another set of head and refurb them rather then trying to change 24 seals in a weekend!
Good luck

Went and looked at it today. It has an oil leak coming out the back of the block somewhere. Think I am going to pass on it. Need to keep looking

You sure it's from the block? Maybe just the valve covers...

I'd rather find something I am not gonna have to pull the engine apart on.

With you. But, for the age, you need to figure something is needed somewhere. And for the miles, and now being for sale, I'd bet you need to do the timing belt and related. Meaning, you have the top of the engine uncovered, and hence easy access to the VCs.
Having said all that, a price of $6k-ish is a little bit up there, IMO. I'd jump on it for much less than $5k and track down the leak.

Went and looked at it today. It has an oil leak coming out the back of the block somewhere. More than likely just a cam plug. Mine leak and I need to fix it. Cam plug leak is very common. I think Scottie has replaced them on every GenII he's had
