Differences between 2.6l Injectors? #916767 11/20/08 09:11 PM

Body Damage is Cool

So, long story short; IÆm installing some injectors in my 92 2.6l amigo. And I have two sets of injectors. One set came out of my amigo, and another set came out of a 90 2.6l trooper. I had the trooper injector ôcleanedö by a local shop. It cost 25 an injector for them too be cleaned, and then testedà

So I didnÆt notice it at the time, but the injector are ôkeyedö different. There is a small tab that sticks out of the bottom of the injector plug mount. And they are different. The amigoÆs injector plug tab is offset about 1/16ö and the trooper injector plug tab is centered.

So I already paid the 100 bucks to have the ôtrooperö injectors cleaned and I donÆt know if I should spend another 100 to get the amigo injectors cleaned or just grind off the tab of the trooper injector plug, and call it a day.

So is there an internal difference between the trooper 1990 2.6l injectors and the 1992 amigo 2.6l injectors?

Say the electrical resistance of them, or the flow rate or something?

Hmmm...yes. There is a difference splitting at what I thought was 92.5 or 93ish years. The later ones flow more and will run really really rich with the earlier computer.

Does your 92 have the big MAF and throttle body? Or, easier, does your throttle body have one or two plates?

If so, then you have the larger injectors and probably should replace them with the same. The later engines were also true MPFI vs a batch fire EFI of the earlier engines.

I tried to run newer injectors with older hardware before I knew/understood the difference. It was, um, rich to say the least.

I thought the split was 93+

they also have different spray tips

curious, how much did the tested injectors flow?

Pucci is correct, the split was in '93.

Steve, I don't know why your injectors are different. Did you buy them? Maybe they are not even from a Trooper?

The flow was 53.

As for the history of both sets of injectors... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

I have known idea if they had been swapped out or something. And as far as it goes; the wiring harness on either the 90 trooper or the 92 amigo might have been swapped out with another 2.6. ItÆs really hard to say. They both had work done to them.

But either way, I decided to have the "origonal" Amigo injectors cleaned. So the ones that i took out are going back in.

Thanks for the info everyone. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

STEVE ALL THE TROOPERS FROM 8707 THRU 91 END USED ALL THE SAME INJ , UO THRU 9010 ALL THE AMIEGOS USED THE SAME INJ AS THE TROOPER
HOWEVER THE AMIEGO CHANGED INJ,S IN 9011-9208 THEN AGAIN 9209-9307 WAS A DIFF PT NO, AND THE 9308 WAS DIFF AGAIN. SO DURING THE RUN OF THE AMIEGOS THERE WERE 4 DIFF INJ,S USED JERRY
90-11 --9208

Probably a good think you didn't use the Trooper injectors . . .
