Need a Spot
I recently purchased a 1990 lwb montero that needs a fuel pump. Purchased the fuel pump already, but when i was taking the old one out, the hard line on the top broke.(the one with the male threaded fitting.) No parts store around me sells the pump assembly, only the fuel pump. I called the dealer and they sell the whole unit but its over 1300 dollars. I decided to drill out that whole delivery line in the assembly and replace it with a new one and have it bronze welded back in place but no one even has the male fitting that is big enough. i went to the junk yard, they had a raider but that one was rusted through already too. I need ideas/advice where can i get a new unit for cheap? also, could i just cut the female fitting off of the rubber line and just use clamps, or is there too much pressure? thanks in advance.

they do sell a replacement fitting that would probably work. I don't remember the part numbers but you can get them from Napa. If you can wait, I found an assembly on Car-part.com for $75

I had the same thing happen with my '89. I purchased a "new" fuel pump and bracket from msrecycling in California (more likely to not be rusted out...). I recommend this as the cheapest way to get the bracket.

Bear in mind you'll still need to remove the old fuel pump from the bracket and replace it with your new pump. You may still have other issues to deal with as well. In my case, msrecycling just snipped the rubber line about 1" down from the male fitting and shipped it. I ended up having to heat the fitting with a propane torch and melt some paraffin into the threads to get the female end of the hose to free up. I also had to do the same thing with the flare nut on the other end of the rubber fuel line. If you haven't removed the rubber fuel line yet, this is where you do it. Once it's off, screw it onto the hardline fitting on your new pump, install the pump in the tank, re-route the rubber hose and tighten it down at the flare nut fitting. Do a search on my username if you want to read my saga (somewhere back around November '06, I think). Remember that PBBlaster and properly sized flare wrenches are your friend when doing this job

Thanks. NAPA was the first place I went, they said they didn't have that fitting(I took it with me). I'll probably go ahead and pay the $75 so i dont have to worry about a junkyard one rusting out on me in the near future. thanks for the info to both of you.

just be sure to have them check the quality of the assembly they have. Don't want to have 2 bad ones.

If you're not in a hurry, meaning needing the part tomorrow, I have mostly disassembled my aqua Montero 4-door in this area, needing to only drop the tank to get the sender mount out. I could handle this job over the weekend for you...

Well, I got the pump and assembly put together and installed the other day, and it started right up... But when i tried to give it some gas, it would bog down, when i let off the gas pedal, it would idle again, but then it eventually died. Every time i tried to start it after that, it cranks, but wont run.... I checked to make sure the rubber high pressure line wasn't kinked, and it's not. I don't really know where to go from there. Any help or suggestions would help me out alot. Thanks.
