Had a problem with my truck shifting yesterday, it wouldn't go into gear when rolling, but would whe stopped, so after doing some reading on the board I determined I needed to get a new clutch M/C and slave. After getting everything swapped and bled I took it for a drive and it was shifting fine again, but the clutch pedal throw was extremely short. So after messing around with it I ended up just pulling on the pedal and it came out to where it should be (sounded like some fluid had gotten behind the piston). So now the throw was correct, bled everything again, checked the slave, travel looked good when clutch was depressed. Went for a test drive and couldn't get it back into gear again, back up my driveway after wrestling it into 1st to my garage smelled like I smoked the clutch and now I get a scraping sound when the clutch pedal is depressed, sounds like flywheel on clutch disc. So, guess I need to drop the transmission cause I think I destroyed my clutch, any input on this? Never had to drop the tranny or mess with the clutch before.

Only thing that comes to mind offhand is that the clutch plate is grenaded, or that the TO bearing is shot. Dang.

I'm going through the exact same thing. The transmission was bad and the clutch was new, so I was hoping that the tranny rebuild would fix it. Unfortunately, it didn't. I've got a bad clutch and have to have it swapped out. I'd love to try it myself but have nowhere to work on it. Oh well.

ok, you said the throw was short and you pulled up the clutch peddle, I am pretty sure the clutch master has a finger that the adjustment screw part hooks to.
I am thinking that you pulled the finger out to far and it is hooked or crooked into the side of the piston part and now holding your cluch half way in.

look at your cluch slave and see if it is sticking out along ways.

umm even if it isn't you still may have the master pushed halve way in already check your linkage under the dash.
or pull the master back off and look.

I wish it was that easy, but the master and slave seem to be working just fine now, but definately something is wrong with the clutch from all the noises it makes, already have everything unhooked, just have to take out the tranny to engine mounting bolts and the crossmember and out she comes, hopefully easily.

well, take pictures and let us know what you find.
if you do replace the clutch I would go after marlins kit.

that is what I am going to do the next time I have to pull mine out. I currently have the center force 2 and it slips at low speeds, those little weights only start to work above 3 grand and lock pretty tight at 6 grand.
I want something for slower.

Got the transmission out today and here's what I found.

Don't think it's supposed to be in 3 pieces!

Throw out bearing seems fine, but I don't know how those cheesy little clips keep it on there.

Anyways, looking at getting the Marlin clutch, probably have to wait until after the holidays though. Maybe I can talk the kids into asking for that stuff for Christmas!

The thing only had 12000 miles on it, wheeled about once a month with only 2 really hard trips on it, rest of the time it was my daily driver, guess that's what I get for putting in a Schucks clutch. I think the oil leak is coming from the rear of the valve cover and leaking down, I'll work on that while I have things apart.
