I bought a used ARB on Ebay for less than 200 bucks

hey that doesn't count, I bought my front locker from Lloyd for $200. Why are we arguing this? This should be simple,
Dana 44 is better that stock IFS, Stock IFS is better than Dana 30.

Exactly and I think we can all agree on that!

This set of d44 are from an early bronco. They have 4.11s or 4.10s in them I dont recall. I could get the set cheap but I dont know what they look like inside that and I can not fabricate. The steer axle is rigged up with some disc brakes from a Suzuki sammy I believe. Tempting to buy them and hold onto them just incase I do get to that stage. The set for $200.

Tag, I think I remember reading somewhere that some of the early D44s had different knuckles than later units. I want to say there might be a difference in the balljoints (kingpin even?). I also think that I remember a potential diffence in the spindle bolt pattern (five bolts instead of the more common six bolt pattern). This is not to be confused with the wheel bolt pattern.

You should probably do some searching online. If either one of these is true, then you might want to hold out for a newer D44 because junkyard parts will be more plentiful and you will be able to hub it to matching six lug wheel bolt pattern.

They are ball joints, no D44 ever had kingpins. The knuckles are interchangable with the newer style D44. The spindle pattern was different but because you can change knuckles you can also swap a newer spindle on. There is plenty of aftermarket support for this axle aswell. Those knuckles on that axle aren't flat top either. The only weak spot in that axle is the 19 spline outer shafts. If you spend the money it can be upgraded to 30 spline.

check out mr. n's d44 article. pretty much all you would ever need to know about the 44.

btw - my arb ran a little over $700 from "jeff's bronco graveyard", got the gears(4.88) and master rebuild kit there too. looks like i paid a little too much!

The axles are from a 1969. 5 lugs I think. Which would be a bummer. Like I said If I do get them I will just be sitting on them for a long time.

you can swap the over to chevy spindles\rotors etc to get the 6 lug pattern and put on set of hi steer arms.
