Exactly.

That and the fact that control over that force is entirely under the Federal government instead of the state and local governments. This point gets lost in a lot of discussions, but the founders specificly wanted to limit the power of the Federal government because they knew it would the hardest form of government for the people to control and it would represent the interest of the people the least. While the local governments are elected by and controlled by fewer individuals, giving individuals better control over their government and their destiny.

On some level, the FBI shouldn't even really exist, but at least the FBI is generally limited to investigating specificly Federal and interstate crimes that transcent local juristicans.

The problem with this plan is that it involves or at least potentially involves federal military troops patrolling streets and quelling American social unrest and generally doing the job that should be done exclusively by local police.

If we need more police, then we should be hiring more police. Not using the military.

Another thing. I've heard that each state's National Guard unit already has a full time anti-terror/nuclear unit specificly for those extreme situations. If true, then it further prove this federalization of our local police is not needed.
