Have nothing but good things to say from my own experience with Discount Tire / America's Tire.

I have heard however that if you have high end wheels you have to be careful which tire shop (all shops) you go to as they sometimes aren't as careful with the mounting which (I'm sorry to learn) is what happened here..

All you can do if they don't fess up is file a small claims lawsuit. You don't need a lawyer and the filing is around $25 at your local courthouse.

You could also try contacting a local "investigative reporter" for consumer protection.

Good luck

Are you 100000 percent sure you did not curb them? The last picture, looks like a scuff mark on the tire from a curb. Did your wife or anyone else drive the Jeep? Maybe you just diddnt notice? It happens. Its a very light scratch, you may not even have felt it happen.

Otherwise, that sucks. Keep on them. Hopefully they will take care of you. If not, you may be able to buff those scratches out.

I feal your pain..

I went in to "OK TIRE" for an allignment and tire rotation. The guy takes my worn front tires, flips them on the rim and puts them on the back.
then they did the front end allignment. When I got the truck back i noticed the camber was still at a hard angle when I asked for them to be set to "0". The tech takes me out to my truck and shows me how the front tires are wearing perfectly and the camber should not be touched (yet I payed for an allignment). I said "you are showing me my back tires!" I then showed him the back tires that WERE on the front that HE rotated. "Look at how coned out they are" I said, then he started in with the reason being overinflation. I have a precision guage and never go over 35 PSI. I grabbed my guage and checked my tires and they were over 50 PSI. He said "see that is way too much air". I said "Did'nt you flip the tires on the rims?" He said "Oh yea well then that is the right pressure". Now I'm pissed as there was no consistancy to his spouting of BS. I said "give me your guage" and checked with his guage and sure enough his guage read 35 PSI. He grabbed another shop guage and it read 50-something PSI

They suck and lie when they suck......I do my own allignments now.

I've learned that the only cars I should take to Discount, Merchant's, etc, are ones I don't care too much about. That means the Saturn since it's a daily beater and wifey already curb-rashed those wheels, and the 4runner since the OEM steelies need a repaint anyway. They actually haven't damaged my wheels (yet) but they have done some iffy balance jobs, and their alignment techs don't seem to have a clue. And they once raised the Satty without verifying that their lift pads were under the pinch welds, which is pretty important on a car with plastic body panels.

My new blingin Miata wheels get mounted & balanced at a racer/ricer shop with a Corghi Artiglio Master "touchless" tire changer machine. Supposedly it's the machine Ferrari dealers use, although that shop doesn't charge me what Ferrari probably would. $30/tire for mounting and balancing, and they do a precision balance with another Corghi machine. In the grand scheme of things, it's not too much more than the cheaper tire places ($50 more for the set?) when you consider what a set of good wheels & tires costs, and their work is meticulous.

Reuben, I've probably asked you before, but what size are those Volks of yours, 13"? I imagine it would be difficult to make a 15" that light with any reasonable amount of structural integrity. [/threadjack]

I too have never had a problem with Discount Tire.

Anyway, I have a buddy that runs a tire shop. He deals with mainly large rims so he is very careful about mounting tires...it's an expensive mistake to scratch a 22+ inch rim.

Maybe you should find a shop like this around where you live if you don't want your Chromies (yuck) scratched.

No, they are stock size (14x6) and stock offset unfortunately (came from PO). I have to use spacers. They are 6.4lbs each and it's a very odd feeling picking them up w/o a tire mounted. I know I only have 195/60 tires, but loosing 7 lbs in unsprung weight per corner is pretty sweet Everything is a compromise though.

Sorry, end of hijack
