I want to confirm weather or not the 3.0 DOHC and 3.5 DOHC heads are interchangeable. I've heard that they are the same but not sure if it's been done. There are plenty of DOHC Diamantes at the yards here. I would like to pull a set and get them spiffied up for my SR if they will fit. That way I can keep my SR running untill the heads are ready and then swap them in in a weekend. I'm sure OldColt or VR4 knows

Yes the castings are the same. You do need to watch for early and late heads though. Before 93 they did not have the bosses for the cam sensor on the front of the head.

I've been thinking about this very idea for a while now since I suspect my valve guide seals are leaky (might be PCV though). What other vehicles got the 3.5L SOHC engine?

Sorry for the hijack

93+ DOHC 3000gt, stealth, and diamante will all work....though you may want to double check the water crossover bolt locations. if you somehow find a twin turbo the ports flow much better. itll be similar to having ported heads on your truck.

3.5 SOHC was found in diamantes 97+ not sure what else.

The water crossover pipe is what concerns me a little. But The Diamante DOHCs are plentifull in the yards here and easier to find than a DOHC Montero. Also are the left and right banks interchangable on the DOHC engines? Since I'm lazy, It would be easier to pull two different front heads off two seperate cars maybe not the best idea, but a thought...

IIRC they are the same casting front and rear but with different bosses drilled etc.

no matter how you look at it you will need a rear head for the cam sensor mount. ill check my early DOHC heads when i get home to double check that theyre the same front and rear.

FWIW its pretty easy to pull the rear head out of a diamante. i havent done it in a yard but it could likely be done in about 90 minutes since you can just cut the belts instead of take everything down to the bare block properly. it took me 2 hours to pull an SR engine out of the yard since i wasnt going to be reinstalling it.

If you pull the heads off of 2 engines, be sure to measure the head thickness so you don't have one that has been milled and another that has not.

You read my mind Frank I was just thinking about that. I think it would be wise to just pull from 1 engine.

Not at all, you'd have the ports backwards...

pull two 'front' heats and you'll have two passenger side heads which would put the exhaust ports on the inside on the driverside...
