You're getting a spark jumping out of the coil wire because that's the path of least resistance for the spark. You've got high resistance somewhere downstream from there. Check to be sure you've still got a carbon button left in the center of the distributor cap. Also, using an ohmmeter, check that there's continuity in each of the plug wires.
