Getting the Wheeling Fever
Hey does anyone know what axles would be under a 1991 dodge w250? There is one in a local junk yard. I figured the front end at least would be a dana 60, it looks a bit small to be a 60, more like a 44, but I figured if it was a 60 I would grab it and eventually put it under my CJ5.

It is not a Dana 60 in the front of that truck unless it was swapped in by a previous owner. It could be a Dana 50 or D44 but my best guess is a D44. If you can get it cheap enough why not buy it and resell it.

What ever axle it is, if it is made by Dana then it should have an i.d. number on it. D44s are usually on the front side of the axle, next to the diff cover, on the cast webing. On D60s and the bigger axles it is usually either on the cast webbing like the 44 or on the back side of the cast housing. Find the numbers so you can be sure what it is.

I doubt that the front axle of the 1991 W250 is a D60. My 1991 W350 had a D60 front and a D70 rear.

The exception MIGHT be if that 1991 W250 had a Cummins engine. In that year, you could get both the W250 and the W350 with the Cummins. Because of the extra torque of the CTD, they may have put D60s in the front of those with the CTD, just like they did with the W350. But I doubt they did it with the V8's.

A 91' d60 would be a King Pin, that is hard to miss.
The 44 in 91 would only be a ball joint axle.
The 44 cover measures 9.5" across, the 60 is 11"
If it is a king pin axle it would not be a 50, maybe a 61.

Both the 50 and the 61 are wastes of space.

The rear will be a 30 spline 60, once again a waste of time.
It is a myth that a 30 spline 60 is stronger than a d44.
Chromo 30 spline 60 shafts are still not stronger than a 44 with stock shafts.

If the front is a KP 60, it still may need a cut and turn to work properly. Pinion to caster angles are close to the 90 degrees from each other, bad.
The Chevy kp 60 has 10D pinion and 6d caster, much better.

It is a Dana 44, I will just stick with the J10 44's that are under my jeep right now, like them a lot better. I would normally pull it out of the junkyard anyways but I dont have time for anything lately. Thanks for the info.
