Out in the desert this weekend I found, in a barn, a Jeep.. After some looking I believe it to be a 64 model. The odometer shows (under the dust) 16,000 miles. The Jeep is Jeep Green in color and has an extended body, from the factory. It has the front seats and the back seat and then it has aluminum tubing tall railings over the back fender wells.. And it has a padded seat and back rest on the rails on each side.. So it can seat... maybe 6 or 8 folks? It has an overhead valve 4 cylinder and the tranny knob isn't marked.. The thing hasn't been started since 1971! Oh yeah, no doors or top. Seems the ranch owner died in 71 and the ranch has been in control of a huge bank that has no idea what is out there.. Question: What in the hell is it? Worth anything? I think I could take photos next week and publish here.. Big JIm

CJ-6 ??? see: http://www.film.queensu.ca/CJ3b/Poster.htmlThe rails and seats sound like an early Land Rover style... I would like to see photos.... Early jeeps in good body condition are great finds....

Yep that is the Jeep! CJ 6 is what it must be. The body is in wonderful shape seats and all around is 16K condition.. The passanger front fender has a small wrinkle right in front where most jeeps get their dues.. I'll take pics this coming weekend. Big JIm

BJ, if it's a CJ-6, it will look like a stretched CJ-5, whereas a CJ-8 (Scrambler) looks like a stretched CJ-7. If it's factory, and really a 1964 model, it must be a CJ-6, since that's too early for a CJ-8. If you can get it for a reasonable price, I'd scoop it up -- those things are getting rare as hens teeth!

Ya never know until you ask Jim. Good luck tho'. Don't knock too much dust off it. If they say no, then at least get some more pix of it before they run you off.

It's gonna be a tough one. Have to go thru the Lawyers that are managing the assets of the family. The ranch has many gas wells on it. The family is enjoying the proceeds of the natural gas and most of them, if not all, don't even know where the ranches are. So I've got to go thru the lawyers...and they don't give a damn about one old jeep. Big JIm

I want to know two things.. Is the aluminum STEP on each side a FACTORY thing, or is it added by the owners later? Also what about the side seats with the guard rail around them...are they added later or factory installed? Big Jim

aluminum was not a part of early factory material at that age.
I would offer that the side seats, rails, and steps were added to make it more available to passengers and modeled after the older Land Rover style of safari truck.
