Ok, it sounds like then it is probably being held in some sort of family trust. If you can find out who the trustee is he will have the authority to dispose of property for the beneficiaries. Since nobody knows about it, or tried to do anything with it, you could probably talk the trustee into taking it off his hands for a little bit of cash.
