I'd like to say that if we had to buy only American cars, then there must be some fairness for others occupations. Let's buy only American software programs, only American computers, only American digital cameras, only American tires, only American tequila and so on.
Auto industry is the not the biggest industry in this country, in terms of money.
I'd be able to charge three times more for my programs, we the software developers will unionize, and we will be able to retire earlier. You guys will pay for this.
Is the SC guy ready for this ? I doubt so.

I'll show you the reason why the big three are in trouble. Made in 1988, 20 years old, 200,000 miles, glossy paint, no rust. Every thing still works like the day it drove off the lot. Including all the little things like the rear wiper and washer. I cringe when GM and Ford talk about a 7 year product cycle = crap from day one. ![[Linked Image]](http://www.lesjackson.com/jt/joshua11.jpg)

Toyota Nissan Mitsubishi Volkswagon Subaru (just to name a few) all have plants here in the US. Wonder what his tune will be like if China buys Ford? Exactly! With the bailout apparently coming, that may be put off a while longer, but it's still a very good possiblity. Instead of happening this year, it may take a few years, before China owns it. Although Ford is doing the best of the three, I think. GM is far more likely to be broken up first and sold off in chunks to the Chinese. There were actually articles from China about these very plans, which is what made me suspisous about the sudden opposition to bailing out the auto companies for a few billion, when they handed out 8 trillion to the global financial institutions with barely a question asked. Even if/when Ford or GM is bought out by China, many Americans are so stupid, they'll still consider it an American car company, just like they did when the Germans bought out Chrysler. Toyota spokesman Xavier Dominicis said the company's cars consistently receive high marks for quality. The automaker employs 36,600 Americans, he said, and about 60 percent of Toyota vehicles sold in the U.S. were manufactured here.
I prefer the 40 percent made in Japan I do too. It's not so much the ones "made" here as the ones "designed" here. Toyota in particular started to design some of their vehicles like the Tacoma and Tundra as North American market only, and basicly cheaped out on a lot of stuff. In fact, many of their parts and design sources are the same as the other domestic manufactures. In those cases, I'd rather have something that was designed in japan and made there helps a lot. What people need to realize is that Japan is not China. Japan is our greatest ally in Asia and they support the United States 100%. They share most of our political and ideological values and consider the U.S. great friends. This can't even be said of many of our other western nation friends. So, I have no guilt buying, driving and support cars or any other products made in or by Japanese companies. Besides, most our supposed "American" companies don't even want to be known as American. They prefer to be called and known as international global corporations. Sort of soveriegn entities indepedent of borders and flags. The only time they start waving the AMerican flag is when they put a bunch of rednecks in TV commericals to try to sell trucks. And of course now, when they need American tax payer dollars to stay alive. I guarantee you Ford of Europe or Ford of Asia is not waving the American flag much over there or hyping what country their headquarters is located in.
