Getting the Wheeling Fever
I've already had one head gasket blown with the coolant going into the cylinder. This time I'm losing coolant going outward onto the exhaust, so I'm assuming another blown head gasket. Has anyone blown the gasket with the coolant going outward? It's leaking at the rear cylinder on the passenger side. This is for the infamous 3VZE engine (95 4Run 3.0 V6 Auto 4X4). Has anyone found any kind of stop leak that can fix it for a while because I'm trying to avoid a new head gasket? It still runs real strong without the roughness that coolant would cause.

It's possible, but I would double check all your coolant lines first. There are a few back there that could leak.

You could try some stop leak, but usually if its this bad it wont work.

I had a rubber coolant line on my v6 start leaking that was between the firewall and the back of the block. It was hard to see and hard to get to. I will never buy another 3.0 again though. They are a pain to work on even without the headgasket problems.

x2 what Adam said; check your lines first. Then TEST for a gasket leak before you go throwing any of that other crap in there. It'll give you more trouble than it's worth.

Not what you want to hear, but there have been others that have been through this.

Thanks guys. I looked earlier for lines back there, without removing anything, but I just didn't see anything. Like you stated, it must be well hidden because they like to do that with a lot of small items on this vehicle. I love the style of this vehicle but that is clearly the worst engine Toyota has ever made and they really never stood behind making this problem right (even with the recall). I'll start looking again this weekend and maybe remove a few items. If you guys run across any pics or illustrations of what hoses are there I would appreciate taking a look at them.

We have an FSM for a '93 sticky'd in the early trucks section that you should be able to use. It's got both the 3.0 and 22RE info in it, so mind what you're looking at. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Thanks for the FSM link.

One of the heater hoses was indeed split at the base and that's where the coolant was coming from. Replaced the hose but proceeded to break one of the temp. sensors. I barely touched the sensor and the top plastic piece fell off. After pulling the sensor it was rusted inside and corroded so this thing was cracked for some time now and I hit it just enough to snap it. I'm assuming the sensor furthest to the right is the ECT and not the ECU temp. sensor (which is on the left side)?

Glad to hear it was a hose leaking!

I forget which sensor is which though. What does the plug look like going into it? How many wires? What color? On my 88, the ECU temp sensor was green with 2 wires.

I think it has a red wire and a gray wire. I'm at work at the vehicle is home so I'm working from memory. I just know it's on the right hand side. If looking the FSM correctly it shows the ECT on the right.

Got everything replaced and the senor was the coolant temperature sensor. All is well except the TVV is broken. The dealership worked on my vehicle a year or so ago and evidentally broke both vacuum ports and just decided to plug the vacuum hoses. My check engine light has been on ever sense I got it back (code 71 for EGR) and I have been trying to figure out the problem since then. I think I found it. Problem is I can't seem to find who sells these things besides maybe the dealership. Does anyone have one they would like to part with?
