If you have too much offset you will not be able to turn your wheels left or right without contacting something.

I just put on some 15x8 wheels with 4" back spacing and mounted some used 31" tires to see if I would get rubbing.

I couldn't even turn the wheels more than just a few degrees before I got rubbing. To large of an arc. You need to pull the front wheels in a lot to keep things from rubbing. The rears fit really well though.

You need close to 5" of back spacing to keep the wheels tucked in the fendars enough to keep from rubbing.

My stock 98 wheels have 5.25" of back spacing.
