hey guys, I need your expert opinion...I had done a post asking about putting a cummins turbo diesel motor in my toyota... but lately I had a crazy thought... what if I took an extended cab, long box toyota body... and found a dodge frame, motor, and drive train.. do you guys think it'd be possible to mount the toyota body on it?? I know it would require modifying the body mounts and maybe shortening the frame.. whats your guys take on it?

I don't think the anything prior to the last gen Tacoma would even begin to fit a full size truck frame, especially if thinking of a turbo diesel.
You would at least need a T100 or tundra to start with.
Do you need the cummins or do you just want a diesel? If you just want a diesel, locate a 4cyl. Toyota diesel and swap that in. If you need the cummins, then buy and build a dodge. You will be money ahead either way, and less likely to have a project that never gets completed.

FYI, the xtracab longbed (factory configuration that had the factory bed) was only available until '88. If I remember correctly, it was only available in 2wd. I am not including the stretched frame 4wd's that are out there. Now the cab-chassis had longer frames, but no bed of course. I agree with Snowtoy, fitting a cummins in there would be difficult at best, and unless you can find a Dakota with a cummins, I'm not sure the cab on dodge frame would work.

the motor would be inside the cab at least a foot or more or sticking out through the grill that far. the inside of your toyota would have a motor cover about the size and shape of one in a full sized van.
the thing is a huge 6 cylinder.. just don't see anyway for it to fit. really if you left the front of the truck alone the motor would be about where your transfer case shifter sits now. not to mention the radiator, cooling. those things are HUGE.

Yes that is correct, however IIRC, you could get the Std. cab on a long bed frame, and get a 7' bed, but it was a special order and I don't remember if you could get a 4x4 bed for it.

thanks guys.. I hve a cummins turbo diesel.. the old 12 valve inline 6 motor... was just curious...i was thinking about modifying the body mounts so that the body sat up higher so it might clear it.. I haven't gotten a chance to take measurements, but I figured if I started with a dodge frame it could take the power/ drive train problems away

If it isn't a turbo, the stock Toyota frame and drivetrain could probably with stand the torque, I remember even the dodge frames were twisting from the turbo early on.
V8 and 4.3 Vortecs take a 3" body lift and a straight axle for the V* to fit. Height may not be the issue, it will likely be the length.
If you really want the cummins diesel in a Toyota, you are going to have to find a T100 or Tundra. Depending on how heavy the cummins is, you will likely need an SAS to support the weight, even if you don't need a body lift to clear the engine.
If this is a non turbo Cummins, it may not even be worth installing it. A buddy of mine had one back in the mid '90's and it wasn't all that impressive on the highway power/towing or mileage wise.
