That stupid little black box next to the coil will stop spark. There is also a sensor in the dizzy that will stop spark. Did you try the fuel pump tester plug to power it, or just turn the key? I dont think it runs if you just turn the key. If it is a broken timing belt, it will sound weird when spinning just the bottom of the engine over. The ECU will also just die with no warning. It should give you a check engine code though. Did you check those?
