sound like it was getting power or was bad so we replaced it.

after replacing it it still wouldnt start and when we checked for spark from the coil there was none.

would power to and from the main (MPI-fuel pump)relay be the place to begin? will it cause no spark ? I tink maybe...

get the FSM here. it will be your friend

I haven't time to read all , so sorry if it's on here.

Mine died on the highway and I got the dead ECU code. I swapped in my spare ECU and got dead code.
I noticed the location of the MPI relay , without the plastic cover, and thought Hummm,,,
I took the cover off and one of the 2 electromagnet relay switches was green with corosion. I replaced it wirth the relay from a 3.0 Sonata and it was good as new.
In a humid or snowy habitat I would check it out.

Mitsu Sigma 88-90 3.0
Hyundai Sonata 92-98 3.0 SOHC
Mitsu Diamante 92- ? same engine
All have the same MPI relay ,,,coil,,,Power transistor.
Some of the above came with the same as 89 3.0 distributor photo optical thing. Has 013 on module and disc.
(90-94 dist. , good luck.)

That Transistor is on all kinds of Japanese /Korean. Look for the J21 on top .
Mit. Max/D50 2.4s
Geo tracker/S Sidekick
Vista/Colt micro vans.
Some of the eclipses...

Recycle is best for the budget and for carrying a sapare of every electronic engine part in an ammo can during long trips.
AAA left me sitting on the highway in 105 degree heat for 4 hours once,,they never did show so I ruined an engine to save my and dogs life.
Carry spares... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Getting the Wheeling Fever
well the west virginia state police, numerous so called courtesy patrol trucks and tow trucks alll flew past me even though i had triangles out, and had a sign on the back window that said help. more than 6 hours at 18-20 degrees while wet from trying to find out what was wrong with the truck.
my cousin drove to morgantown to get me, the cops stopped then because they thought there was an accident i guess... hell if dave hadnt came i couldda froze to death before any cops would have checked:(
ive got tingly dark purple feet and tingly fingertips still from being so cold for so long

Unlike W.V. the cops check here. The CHIPs stopped 3 times to check on me and each time they called AAA. A year later I got the police log and I sure wish I was more litigus now as it cost me an engine that only had like 25k on it. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" />

Getting the Wheeling Fever
let mejust say now the monty is the least of my worries.
im a 400lb guy with diabetes and now frostbite, ill fix the monty when i get out of the hospital, the cool thing is my mom works here at the cafeteria so i get good food, and the it guy set me up to have use of the internet.
looking back after hour 2 or 3 i should have called 911 and seen if they could take me to the rest stop 10 miles back.

question, would anyone take offense to me posting pics as its in the context of what not to do (ie freeze for 6hrs)?

I don't think there'd be a problem with it.
