I'm looking at a '93 and I currently have a '91. I plan on putting the '91 engine into the '93. What do I need to look out for? Is it pretty much just a matter of dropping it in and hooking it up?

I'm going to be picking up the '93 SR this weekend. Engine doesn't work and tranny condition is in question, although it does have fluid so it hasn't been sitting dry. No rear locker but it does have adjustable shocks in rear. It doesn't have the third row. Do they come ready to bolt in the third row seats? The body and interior are in excellent condition, meaning for a 15 year old vehicle I would expect a dent or tear or rust or something to indicate it's age but found nothing. All in all, I'm excited.

This should be a pretty easy swap in. No differences in the block or heads. There may be some minor differences in the electronics to watch out for along with the vacuum line set up, but this should be easily swap-able with parts off the old engine.

You can also use the 91 trans but you will need to swap over the tailhousing off the 93 trans to mate it to the 93 Active Track T-Case.

Not sure about the jumpseats there may or may not be holes for them under the plastic. Mits started those in 94.

THe gen 2 oil pan is a little different , you may have to use the gen 2 oil pan. I think a gen 2 pan will go in a Gen 1 but not sure the other way cause of the High pinion gen 2 diff.

So here's some pics of the beauty I'm picking up Saturday.

I've only been a Montero-freak for a little over a year and I'm already moving to a Gen 2. This wasn't planned. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/drunk.gif" alt="" /> I came across a stealin' deal on this '93 SR. I'll pull the engine out of my '91 and plop it right in. Then I might try to rebuild the engine that's in the '93 and throw that one back into the '91 and sell it.

I can't part with the engine that I built a little over a year ago. If any of you remember I put a lot of love into it.

While I'm at it does anyone know what switches go in the two vacant spots in this pic?
