I have been doing a little looking on this subject, but I havenÆt dug into it too deep yet, and from what I have seen so far, I am not sure I really want to tackle the project since it is not my jeep, but I still may, weÆll see what you all say.
A buddy of mine has a 2000 Grand Cherokee, and he is saying there is no heat in the passenger compartment, and the fan will only blow slightly warmer air with the temperature turned to hot rather than cold, but the engine temp is reading normal and the heater hoses are still normal temps, he is not having any operational issues with the jeep other than the passenger compartment temp. He says it just has the basic heat system in it and not the computer controlled dual climate set up. (I havenÆt even looked at the rig yet, so weÆll see how things are, so go off the second hand info for now.) So from what I have researched thus far, it sounds to me like this is likely the blend door or blend door actuator. The blend door from what I have read sounds like a royal pain the a$$ to fix due to removal of the entire dash, is a dash removal actually required? The actuator doesnÆt sound too bad because supposedly it can be accessed through the glove box? Has anyone out there had to deal with replacing the blend door or does anyone out there have any insight as to an ôeasy fixö or ôcheap fixö or work around to get the heat working again?
Thanks in advance,
Sean

first check the coolant level, sometimes when it is low not enough coolant makes it into the heater core to warm the cabin. If that isn't the case flush the heater core. just unhook the hoses and take a water hose and start with the upper hose then lower hose and back and forth till all crap if any comes out. if that isn't it well then move on to the more difficult stuff like the blend door and the actuator.
out of all the jeeps in this town the d**n gremlin had to invade mine
I've done so much, with so little for so long i can practicly do anything with nothing

That was one of the first things I asked him. He said the coolant was fine and both heater hoses were hot, which told me the heater core wasn't blocked either. Like I said I haven't seen it yet, but from he describes, I do not believe there is anything wrong with the cooling system or the heater core, but I will be double checking all of that when I finally see the jeep.
Thanks

Sounds like the MIXTURE GATE isn't opening all the way. Most modern gates are electric with tiny motors that open the gate. However Jeep has been late in changing from vacuum gates. Check the vac hose that goes into the firewall to see if it has a crack or even has become unattached. That 2000 might even have the lectric gate which is easy to replace. I had one ride that had a 30.06 shell stuck in the gate...once removed the gate operated normally again. Big Jim

When the driver shoots out the window the ejected shell flips up on the dash and if there is an opening...such as a defroster outlet.. the damn thing gets out of sight and into the gate. Big JIm

Well again I still haven't gotten my hands on it, but I had the buddy do a few checks, feeling heater hoses and such, and from what he said its sounding more like a plugged heater core. Once it warms up a little we'll poke around at it a little more.
