PART 3: 34x12.5s after 2" Body Lift

While the whole idea is that fact that you run 34"s stock with no lift, but I think its important to know what kind of gains you will get from adding lift to the truck. Because while you can get by running 34"s with no lift, the goal in the end for most is to get some kind of lift to better clear the tires to prevent rubbing etc.

The 34x9.5s will be going on the truck next. Here is a sneak peak at that adventure coming up:

Nice raider!

How bad do you think the performance be with 36-37" tires with SAS and 5:89 gears? I've done the math and 5:89 gears with 35s and 4:625 gearing with 28s are almost the same. Do you think it will hurt the 4 banger too much even with good gearing? It wont be going over hills at all. (Florida) Just wondering what you thought since you're the only one I know running tires that big all the time.

Since you don't live in a hilly area you probably won't have too many issues. I just don't know how your MPG will turn out, probably not that great. That would be the only thing I would be keeping an eye on, but gas is cheap right now so that isn't that big of an issue.

Right now its in NC and gets 12mpg in the mountains with 31s so as long as I get at least that back in florida with 35-37s I'll be happy

edit: Any trans problems so far?

No transmission problems to date, and I pray to god none in the future. I don't know about the 36"-37" tire range, but I will say you will just have to take it easy. Part of the running bigger tires is learning to deal with going a little easier on your truck on the road. As long as you can live with that the KM145 should hold up ok out in FL. Same size tires in the mountains out here in NC.... I would say no.

Yeah I hope it will hold up! How bad is the steering with 34s?

I haven't noticed anything that adverse about the steering. It isn't that big of a difference in the steering going from the 31's to the 34's. And my silver truck doesn't have power steering anymore, so I do know how bad steering can get. I will say though with the body lift it does seem like they turn just a little bit easier than before stock.

I'd be curious to know what some of you (who have rubbing issues) have for rims. When I had 31x10.5 tires on stock alloy rims and no lift, mine never rubbed. After I swapped out to 33x12.5 tires on 15x8 rims and put in a 2" body lift they still never rubbed. I have even more room now after putting in a 2" suspension lift. Just eye-balling it, I have no doubt I could put 35s on (and likely will when my 33s wear out) and still not rub under heavy flex, even with the swaybar removed.

Of course, having the right gearing for it helps me, too. [Linked Image]

As it sits currently, with 33x12.5s:

I had those exact same 31x10.5s on Alloys with no rubbing, and the 34x12.5s have rubbed largely because they are TSLs. The massive outer lugs that stick out a lot further than any normal mud terrain rubbed like crazy before the torsion bar crank. And now with the body lift you have to go to about full flex to get them to rub,and even then its very rare. I guess you could also contribute it to the 34"s being 1" bigger than 33"s. But its safe to say I don't plan on having any rubbing issues with the 34x9.5s on the alloys.

PART 6A: THE 34X9.5 VS 34x12.5 FINAL WORD

I have showed pictures of the used 34x9.5s vs the used 34x12.5s, but there has never been a true comparison. So here you have 34x9.5 NEW to 34x12.5 NEW. It should also show that what Interco calls a 33x12.5 is a 34x12.5 in every sense.

As a spare they BARELY fit, the rubber tips are pushed down. Closer fit than the 34x12.5s, proving the 33.7" measurement on the 12.5s, and 33.8" on the 9.5s.

Coming up this weekend probably, will be Part 6b: 34x9.5s on with 2" Body Lift.
