Body Damage is Cool
You don't need to touch it. Just take out the EFI harness, and wire in those 3 wires i mentioned.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Update
We installed the 22R. It was a complete engine with distributor. Will the coil from the 22RE work with the 22R Distributor or will we need a coil from a 22R? We also installed the alternator from the 22RE.
When You mention removing the EFI harness, is that the harness on the passenger side running through the firewall and does that include the computer? Do my gauges and ingnition run through the computer as well?

Just run all of the efi stuff it will be alot easier in the long run, I have done this a few times to trucks and 4runners. Pretend you are intstalling a longblock rebuilt motor. If you want to put the cam from the efi motor in the 22r that will help. Dont waste your time with a carb when you have all of the efi stuff.

Already installed engine with carb.

Go back and read post from 12/28. Blocks from early 22R and 22RE are not the same. Deck height is different on my engines.

OK, Lets try again. I need to know if anyone has tried this and had success. So far I've had none. If you take out the EFI harness the computer doesn't let your fuel pump cut on. What do you do about the ingnition coil? Use the EFI or get a coil system from a 22R? What do you do to bypass the sensors in the air intake system? And finally, does anyone know how to wire this up without the computer as I feel this is my problem?

But your intake mani will bolt to the 84 head. Just the exhaust is different. Leave all the EFI in there and swap long blocks and exhaust manifolds.

Go to this link and read the section on 1983-84 models. My head is an early 22R, 1981-82 model, and the EFI intake WILL NOT bolt up to it. I've done my homework on that option and it only cost me time and money. It will not bolt up.

The article also says the new 22r was made from 85-94. It was made 85-95. (and more other places around the world).
It also does not mention that an EFI intake wont bolt up. It says a few extra holes were tapped for it.
