Need a Spot

I am trying to change the fuel filter on my 96 Tacoma SX and I'm having some trouble. Do I need to take the bracket completely off in order to change it? The problem I'm having with the truck, which started today, is while I was at a stop light the truck quit running. It would start up with no problem. Read a previous post and there was mention of replacing a mass air flow sensor. I'm no mechanic by any means so any help and advice is welcomed. Thanks for your time.
