x2... You can save some money by removing the transmission yourself and taking it to a reputable transmission shop for an overhaul or exchanging it for a remanufactured unit.

Check your u-joints for the clunking when stopping & starting. Good time to replace them if needed since you have to drop the drive shaft to remove the trans anyway.
