My Montero is still stalling. It happens usually after I put the pedal to the floor and kick in the secondaries. It will run like a bat outta hell, then it stalls.......like driving through a wall. When I floor it some more, it just stalls out faster. I am at my wits end. I do not have time to do diagnostics, or the money for that matter. What on earth would stall an engine with such infrequency. After it sits for a couple of minutes, it starts right up, then goes for a while, then dies again. On mornings, it starts right up and idles without any problems. coil?? pick up coil?? emission controls??? It is beyond my scope. HELP!!!!!!!!!

After a couple of hours later, the truck starts right up. After warming up, I floored it up the side street hill. After reaching the top, it started to stall after stopping at the stop sign. I pulled over and while idling, I would depress the accelerator and the truck would start dying, like the vacuum wasn't there or something.I still cannot identify the problem

I don't know the full details of you investigation, but have you looked at the fuel filter, fuel pump, and screen inside the fuel tank for blockage? sounds like it running out of gas.

If we knew what year and model/trim level/eng you are referring to it might help.

that being said, sounds like a fuel delivery problem to me.

I have: new carb, fuel filter, fuel pump, new clearwater head. I have noticed that my 86' 2.6 is not getting much vacuum. with the truck idling, I pull off a hose here and there, and there is no difference in engine sound. I know that I was leaking brake fluid into my floorboard and I replaced the brake master, and no more leaks. But i wonder if the fluid ate away at the internal diaphram and is causing a major vacuum leak

Tom,

Now that the weather is cold again.... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> I think its time for some trouble shooting in the driveway!

You could try a drive with the gas cap slightly loose to see if its a fuel tank venting issue.

Also watch your tach when it dies. Doest it drop a little or to zero?

Drop me a line if you want to come by this weekend.

Kevin

Patrick,

You have the ECU controlled V6. He has a carburated I4 2.6 engine. Are you suggesting he check his distributor?

Did not see what for model it was. At first mine atalled also just when it was cold and sounded quite similar. Wanted to give him another direction to look. I went thru all of the fuel checks before finding it was electrical and traced it after several months to the distributor (Optical Sensor).
