Here are my ideas for 'bang for buck' improvements on the old truck.

There is a little plastic cup on the bottom of the shifter, if you replace it, all the play in the shifter will disappear.

BRAKE FLUID. Completely replace it. Amazing difference.

WRT the center tie rod, the included alignment is only a toe adjustment per the campaign, but you may be able to talk them into a full front end alignment for little to nothing. I completely rebuilt the front end before taking it in for the recall to get the most out of that.
