My latest truck (surprisingly) shipped with a great set of (DOT approved) Geolandar I/T ice and snow tires. 85-90% tread on all four... Through all my trucks, and lots of different tires, I've never had an honest to goodness snow tire before. All I can say is wow! Snow tires, on the road are head and shoulders above ATs for everyday snowy road driving.
For example, I was coming home today, taking secondary roads, and at times I was going through drifts that were bumper height. Now these were not seldom-used backroads, but we did have some fierce winds today, and combined with open prairie and some falling snow (along with what was already on the ground), it was a nasty mess to drive in. But inside the truck... it was quite relaxing. Good braking, excellent traction, and even a few laughs as I busted through the odd snow-drift, that was coming across my lane. Little other traffic, so thankfully I was mostly on my own, but boy did those tires make a hairy commute into a nice evening drive home.
Not sure if I've put more than 2kms on the new truck in 2WD, since I got it. So that makes 1498kms in 4WD, so far. Gotta love winter!

That's awesome that yours came with DOT tires, even better that they're good tires. I've had some good laughs during our dump of snow here, all 15" of it. It's mostly melted now, but the other night I was cutting through some 2-rut side streets that hadn't been cleared yet, and I came up on a BMW sedan stopped in the 2 ruts and going no-where. I took a good look at it, dropped into locked 4H from AWD, and motored over the drifts at the curb around him. I had already pushed one person into their parking spot 5 blocks back, and I wanted to get home to see my daughter before bedtime. LOL, this was on 10.5x31-15 Dueler ATs! All the while listening to my USB-input on my head unit, and enjoying my heated leather seats as they saved me form being jostled by the drifts I was bouncing over!
I am now officially a Pajero owner. . 1992 Exceed w/winter pkg, roof tray, bounceys, the works

I NEVER use 4wd in winter, my pajero gets such good traction in 2wd I pretty much have to drop the clutch to get the tires to spin. 4wd is used for icy coniditions but I NEVER use it. I haven't even used 4wd in my new Titan yet. I don't have a vagina and need to rely on 4wd hahaha

I haven't even used 4wd in my new Titan yet. I use my headlights in the daytime, always buckle up, and if there's snow on the roads, I use AWD. On average, from November to April (sometimes into May), I'll pass 10 cars a week in the ditch on my way to work (although I've seen as many as 78 in one morning!). Maybe I'd rather not take unnecessary chances? Maybe I'm just not as good a driver as you? Maybe I don't need to see how far I can go before I "need" AWD... Maybe I'm just getting old and crotchety? I don't have a vagina and need to rely on 4wd hahaha But I'm pretty sure my wife can outdrive you (in her AWD) any day of the week. And yes, shifting her own gears too. Just joshing you buddy. But you haven't earned the right to tease me about AWD until you get your 2wd out wheeling...

My wife would leave you sitting in her AWD Skyline...:o
There is a reason they have 4wd HI...it makes a huge difference. i laugh at all the 'tuff' ego guys that use 2wd only when 4wd is an option that is meant to be used. My Ram sat in 4wd over the last month. Good luck with your 2wd Pajero, i'll be sure to pass you by when you wind up in the ditch one day (and you will)

well I'm not saying I use 2wd 100% of the time. I do use it when the roads get BAD! but for just regular in town driving where they plow the roads. I'm not going to let a little ice scare me into using 4wd.

i was almost going to edit my response
In Calgary when the temps are -15 or less the roads are a vitual ice rink. Stopping is never aided by 4wd but starting off at ice intersections is, cornering is and avoiding 2wd 'out of control' drivers is...
They put a 4hi into a vehicle to be used. It wrecks nothing. Even on dry cement in a straight line, no damage. When the road surface is so cold, than even 'dry' appearing roads are ok in 4 hi. The Pajero has AWD as well which is good for ANY condition with no ill effects. So, if you in no way are hurting a vehicle designed to be in 4wd, than why not use it. On torrential rain days, i use it as well. Its not about being a ***** but more about using a vehicle for its intended purpose.
