Yeah, I've made a note to put mine into 4Hi once in a while just because... When we got this big dump of snow last month, my Pajero's autohubs didn't want to lock for a day or so. I hadn't had it in 4Hi since our last snow a year previous! I agree with Phil and the other safety guys too. It just makes sense to have it in AWD whenever conditions are less than ideal. Going 2wd would be like turning your ABS off if you could. Why?

haha well its like I said many times...let me know when your going and I'll be there.

Okay, we're going out on February 7th. We'll be camping, but you're welcome to come for a day trip, or camp too...

Tom, Clead... Agreed. Hurts nothing (hardly even notice the MPG penalty actually). I don't see Subaru drivers searching for a way to disengage their AWD...

I was actually down at the bike show today (first time in Calgary in a bit), and had it in 2wd most of the day for a change. Steering is a tiny tiny bit lighter, but otherwise hard to notice a difference in high-traction situations...

I'm not going to let a little ice scare me into using 4wd.

I don't need to reply, since my opinion has already been voiced, via Dr.Tom:

i laugh at all the 'tuff' ego guys that use 2wd only when 4wd is an option that is meant to be used.

But not if you're in the new truck! Just kidding!

Sorry to go offtopic in your thread Phil , but anything new and cool on the dual-sport front? I'm so stoked... I just found a 2006 DR650 engine with 7,000 miles on it from a DR vs deer collision to reanimate the barely running DR650 I bought a couple years ago at a parts-bike price. If it all works out, I'll have a 1997 DR650 with a 2006 motor, extended tank, heated grips, progressive suspension F&R, custom rack, Pelican trunk and new tires for less than $2500 all-in. smile

I love my AWD on the Pajero. Been in AWD a lot lately since this town and Calgary don't know how to plow roads. On the highway if conditions are good enough to to the limit, I'll be in 2wd. I notice a pretty big difference in MPG between 2wd and AWD.

I really like having the Mitsubishi's AWD option. My YJ only had the part-time system, not nearly as useful for a daily winter driver in Calgary.

All in good fun my friend. Are you interested in coming out with us in Feb?

[hijack]As far as the show, the KLR for this year has more blue on it but is otherwise unchanged, except the deletion of the green, and an all-black one. Some real nice Beemers, including the 800, and the KTMs were lookin real nice as well, though still $$$!. Didn't really notice any new Yammy's, though last year they were really hyping the Tenere (sp).

There were no hardcore guys on their bikes in the snow yesterday, though we were down there again to see the Flames, and lo and behold I heard a put-put, only to see a BMW Dakar pulling out of the snowy Stampede Grounds. Cool/crazy. [/hijack]

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Phil,

It is my understanding that the mosquitoes will not be nearly as bad in February. Perhaps one "Smoker" will be enough?

Oh, hell! Anyone with glow plugs and 3 red triangles will be welcome. As long as they have 4wd and use it

Hi. I'm puzzled by the references to AWD. My 91 SWB only has 4hi, 4 hi centerlock and 4 low. Is 4hi the AWD you guys are referring to?
