Getting the Wheeling Fever
I just finished rebuilding the engine on my 95 SR and put 500 break in miles on it. Now I need to tow some crap with it. It has the factory bolt on hook deal for pulling your truck out of a ditch and I have seen the bolt on hitch for that location. My question is: Is that bolt on hitch worth a damn or am I going to have major problems towing a car on a dolly with that thing? I wanted to see what other people have used for a tow hitch on this thing and what their tow limit was. I have bilstein shocks all around and I'm going to be putting some air lift air bags in the rear. I already had a 3000GT TT engine in the back of the truck and it didn't budge at all once it was dropped in... that was a pleasant surprise. So, basically I'm looking for a hitch that can handle towing 5-6000 lbs and I don't think the factory deal can handle that by the looks of it. If it can handle it, do you know where I can get the bolt on receiver part for the factory setup (if there is a place besides the dealer, obviously). Thanks.

I don't know if it's still available from the dealer or not, it might have to be ordered but they had a really decent tow package that utilized frame mounts like standard tow packages as well as that tow hook mount... Mitsu dealer quoted me only $150 for it, but that was 2 years ago. They are probably out of stock for a Gen 2-2.5 by now.

I bolted a receiver tube straight to the center mount and towed a 4k+ lb boat and trailer with no strain, with higher tongue loads than you should see with a loaded tow dolly, all on my 95SR. I had to drill two new holes in the flange, as the flange was really for a pintle hitch mount (same width, different top/bottom spacing).

I got lucky at a Pick & Pull. Found a bolt to frame Draw-Tite reciver hitch, wiring kit and trailer brake setup less than 50 bucks.

You may need an adaptor to make the separate brake, turn signal bulbs work with the combo bulbs found on most trailers.

Hans GZP, if you can find a 2" receiver that only uses the 4 bolts that hold on the tow hoop, I'll swap it for my Gen II factory tow bar

PM me if you're interested.

I have the dealer receiver that mounts to the frame rails and the tow-hoop-plate at the rear, ~$165, IIRC. Also got the dealer plug-n-play four-pin harness, ~$50. It all installs efforlessly in no time. Still have the tow-loop as well.
