Hi Ray, I buy the timing belts for these from the dealer, the DOHC Mitsu engines are tough on the timing belt, the 6 cylinder less so than the 4s are but I have seen my share of 40K belt failures. A Conti brand belt has been the shortest lived belt so far. The SOHC engines I will run any brand belt though. Good point. In fact, I may just buy the whole kit and caboodle from them to be safe so I don't have to redo this until it's actually due.

I would expect the rollers might be a bit cheaper elsewhere but the belt and seals I get from the dealer. The seals add up in price but they run dryer than the aftermarket ones. I do not know if there is any difference on the tensioner, I happen to just had a tensioner failure on the DOHC engine in my Diamante wagon. Engine started a rumble at about 3500 revs. I drove it home gently and parked it till I can service it, I have no desire to loose a belt. Engine has 265K on it with about 30K on the belt, rollers and tensioner.

coil spacers for a sequoia fit perfectly.
waterpump ill go with GMB aftermarket or OEM. nothing else.
timing belt ive personally never seen a conti belt fail on a DOHC 6g (i thought the OEM belts were made by conti.) ill use gates, conti, power enterprises or OEM.
tensioner ill use OEM only.
idlers aftermarket are fine.
i may be able to piece together a complete 60k kit cheaper than you can find. depends on your sources.

The Conti failure I had was on a 4G63, a customers street driven GVR4 commuter car. Probably spent a bunch of time in the 2200 to 2400 rpm range that is the harsh spot on these. A new belt I have in hand right now is labeled Unitta, defiantly not a Continental.

Found a new Mitsu water pump and timing belt (OE not aftermarket) for a 95 SR 3.5L DOHC engine for $80 and $45 (respectively) from someone who was going to do their's but then sold their vehicle at the last minute.
He said he'd sell them both to me for $120. Good price?

all the conti failures ive heard of were on the 4g63 Well, that's not something I'm gonna be worrying about for hopefully a least 60k. I'm picking up the belt and water pump tomorrow. Being as they're in his hands and not the dealer, what should I doublecheck to ensure they're fine? Body LiftAs for upgrades, I stopped by 4crawler's today to check on getting a body lift for the rig. I know Cap510 also raised his gas tank over the frame rails. Was this done w/ a 2" body lift or a 3" BL? Rock SkidsI'll be getting the rock skids next. Am vacillating between straight ones or having the ends kicked out 1 or 2 inches wider. Ultimately I wouldn't mind running a set of 37's but I intend to go to 35's minimum on this rig. What do you all think? Kicked out or straight ends? That's all for today. Still need to resolve a EGR check engine light but that's a topic for a different thread. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />
