The other thing the smell might be is from MUD or Grass or small LIMBS or other material clinging to the exhaust system. That system is hot enough to cause dry grass to light and start fires..
Many times something will jump up and get hot enough to char or smolder causing an unusual smell for a while. Might even be there for a few weeks.. causing the smell off and on again.
My wife ran slap over the top of a goat once.. the innards of the goat wrapped themselves around her exhaust system.. she had to live with a smell for a week or so.
