I just got my seed catalogs last week, so I'm still pickin things out. I have a raised bed about 30' long and 8' wide. I have never gardened before so I don't know how much will fit in there. I also have an old 55 gallon aquarium that's going to be starting seeds as soon as I pick what I want.
I can't wait for the weather to get nice so I can start workin out there. I will definitely post updates and pics.

Hah! I just got one of those starter trays too...pretty good deal for only $8. The dirt looks like little turds when they expand.
I will have to post up some pics of some of the seedlings I have started so far....am planting in the starter tray today.

Yes...for the most part. Some things (i.e. lettuce) must be sowed directly in the ground. Most seed packets will specifically say to plant them directly in the ground. And a lot of seeds do not even need sun to germinate... so leaving them by a window is not always necessary, but I put them by a window anyway.

Yeh...I think all my peppers and tomatoes say to start indoors. I've only got one good south facing window, and its still too chilly to put them outside.
I did find a hookup for vermiculite for my square foot gardens.

70+ degrees here in good ol' Texas. Most seeds do not like the cold, but things like lettuce and peas, etc. won't grow in hot weather...have to make sure they are harvestable well before summer starts down here.

Think it matters that I have lettuce seeds in my starter tray??? I didn't know that about them. I'm a garden virgin.

I'm not sure. I think it is supposed to be sown directly into the garden because it does not transplant well, but again, I am not exactly sure. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
Did you put your carrots in the starter tray as well? if so we'll have to see how those transplant as well.... Last year I got too lazy to thin my carrots out and I ended up with some really mutant looking ones. One of them was about 6 inches long and 4 inches wide with a few odd looking dents in it from it growing AROUND other carrots.

The carrots I did not plant there because they have the same issue. Apparently they need to be planted in loose deep soil to keep them pretty. We'll see i guess...
