I've had enough of messing around trying to sort out the mikuni and want to change it.
Does anyone have any opinions / experience of either of these webers?
32/36 DGEV carb or the 38 DGAS
Specifically - is there anything else that will need to be changed/bought/adjusted to suit the new carb?
This will be a long distance mail order, so I'd really like to get it all at once if possible. I'm aware there may be a fuel pump problem, should I go electric?
There are no emissions restrictions or controls here so no worries in that department.
Cheers Rob

Have you searched the forum? Others have gone Weber. The 32/36 rings a louder bell than 38. Don't know for sure. Lots of past threads though.

The only difference between the 32/36 and the 38 is the CFM coming out of them
I think there maybe some difference w/ the DGEV and DGAS but I dont know what

MontyMcv - yes I've tried searching twice now, but couldn't find much specific. My search results seemed to include every subject from wheels to cup holders ...
I entered- mikuni weber -on the last search and the same thing happened, am I doing something wrong?
Thanks 1986, I think the low end torque is a little better with the dgas, although I've yet to decide which choke option...

if your spending the cash on a new carb...go with the 38DGAS. it gives more power and if tuned right, the same MPG. they are very simple compared to the hair-pulling factory mikuni's!!

That's what I've heard, and a lot easier to tune. Any ideas how they cope with a mechanical fuel pump?

I own both of the carbs. I have the 32/36 on my Automatic because it is the only linkage that permits the stock kickdown on my 86 Montero with the 904 chrysler tranny. I have the 38 DGAS on my 83 truck and I am unable to get the kickdown from an 87 auto tranny to hook up to the linkage yet. You have no such problems with the 5 speed and either carb. My seat of the pants aka butt dyno cannot tell a difference between the two on a stock motor. If you plan acam change and headers, by all means go for the 38DGAS.
83 mitsu flat bed 2.6l weber, 88 auto tranny, 2" body lift, 4.625 LSD, 235/85-16E mudders (33 x 9.50).

Thanks very much for replying Whitelespaul, that helps a lot. I'm not planning any extra engine work after I get her running smoothly. I have the 5spd manual box. Aside from the obvious tuning, would either carb be plug and play?
Thanks to everyone for their answers, I'd be shooting in the dark without these forums.

they are basically plug and play...I would recommend re-jetting it for your altitude, mine came with tiny jets from the factory. for my old 32/36 I bought the K&N intake plenum and ran a cone filter...it made quite a big difference and is alot less redneck of an air filter. those little spring clamps are a HUGE pain in the a$$

Altitude in most of Cambo is around sea level, at the most would be a couple of thousand feet up north. This is what I'm looking at redline weberis that all I need? There's a hellish amount of very fine dust here in the dry season (8 months),and I'm reluctant to change the filter system from factory weber as it works well and I can get filters easily. I'll ask around here about the K+N though, thanks
