Yes, living in Southern California has it's advantages this time of year. Everyone else is freezin' and it hit 80 today, BUT: It took me 3 days of tech work, a new catalytic converter (a California type even!), plus $60 for the state's infamous Smog Check. Oh yeah, $71 for plates. All in all, I'd rather buy a cord or so of ANY kind of wood than pay these government bastards this amount. I know the state is going broke, but it sure as hell ain't my fault! And to think I'm happy, 'cause I passed smog!

Every other May I have to play the smog game and every other April is seems like I'm getting rear ended trying to make things right.

I have a secret weapon this year though... The motor has been completely reubiult with STOCK exhaust (no more LCE garbage) and EB's street RV head/261 cam. I hope it's mild enough to pass. New o2 sensors (Toyota) and a new (used) AFM will certainly help. I've been afraid to get a pretest but now it looks like I'm down to the wire.

No, I certainly do NOT like the games we have to play in CA for smog.

Here in Arkansas & Oklahoma, they did away with yearly inspections. They never smog tested but to pass my last inspection, I cleaned out my cat, bead blasted it and painted high temp silver. Looked brand new and they passed it. lol

In New Zealand, they are 10x harder on inspections. A yearly & every 3 years. The 3 year one required they keep your vehicle for 2-3 days and cost's hundreds. If it had any rust on any structural item, it was failed.

You would think those greedy politicans would at least kiss us!
