Hey my 2000 sportage made a big bang sound and locked up the wheels and killed the engine, so I took it out of 4 High and put it in 2wd never thought anymore about it. I brought it home and jacked the front end up locked the front hubs put it in 4 High spun the wheels they won't turn. Took it out in snow got stuck, front wheels won't pull. What actually is broke in the front diff.?

When mine went (same scenario as yours) Adskia suggested the spider gears let go. As he's gone through 2 diffs from this I believe it.
If I had a hammer.....

I looked up the ring and pinion, and it looks like there straight cut gears, how would you shim this assembly? I'm sorry, on a 2000 sportage front axle.
