Hey guys, just doing some little projects with my 3000GT. Had the option to get a carbon fiber hood, but if I go that route, I'm not sure whether to paint it or leave it. The exterior color I'm going for would be a medium Charcoal. So leaving the carbon fiber stock might look good.

But I've also know that if the painter knows what he is doing, he could paint the carbon fiber hood, but you would be able to still see the "weaving" of the carbon fiber through that paint. What do you guys think?

And of course, fiberglass would be another option and I would paint that. Which would you go for, fiberglass or carbon fiber?

Go for carbon fiber and paint it. I think seeing the weave under the paint is cool. IMHO having a black CF hood and a different color car is a bit 'tuner'. Is it an induction hood? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Of course! I'd have to look into hood pins too. If I go with a new hood, it will have the flush mounded hood pins. maybe paint the hood pins too?

Body Damage is Cool
Some Ducati motorcycles have painted carbon fiber fairings, but they mask off the DUCATI so the fiber shows. Looks great. Might work for a stripe or other graphic on your car too.

Go for the painted carbon fibre. The Ferrari F40s, F50s, F60s I mean Enzos, etc.... look awesome. From a distance they look smooth. Up close you can see the weave. Looks good.

I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.

you think a body shop could easily do this or only a skilled painter? I want a CF hood, but it's $500 more

Go CF It's worth it, fiberglass hoods suck I'm sure there are some good ones out there but they are very fragile. It'll most likely need to be repaired within a few years just from regular driving.

Nooooooooooooo!!! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />

With a silver/grey/black car, use the top-mounted pins..... they look soooooo much better with the flange to receive the screws instead of the screws sitting off by themselves.

Just my opinion, though. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> It IS your car. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

I like that hood a lot! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Just curious, what's the benefit of a CF hood?
