What rack is it mounted on?
No rack, just the tent custom mounted directly to a pair of standard Thule crossbars and Thule mid-height gutter mounts. The tent floor is rigid and does not require a rack.
What brand/model tent?
1st Gen. Mombasa I bought new, locally. The guy originally bought it from
Car Top Tent but did not use it.
What came w/ it and did you get any other options with it?
It came with the tent, cover, crappy steel ladder and undersized rainfly. I replaced the ladder with a much improved aluminium ladder retrofitted from the 2nd Gen. Mombasa.
And of course, what did it cost?
I believe I paid $400 for it a couple years ago. Another $100 for the ladder. It is a pretty good tent considering the price. Plenty of room for myself, my 12 y/o and my 5 y/o. I have no experience with any of the higher-end (better quality) tents and can only compare it based on features I've seen in literature and other's reviews. If you plan on buying a RTT for a lifetime of use, you are probably better off spending the extra money up front and buying a really nice, quality unit from the start.
I dig rooftop tents, but I am also very limited on discretionary spending, so this 'cheap' RTT fits the bill for me. I would love to buy an Autohome Maggiolina Extreme one day, but they are quite pricey.
Anywho, I've thought about selling the Mombasa and building a poptop for the SR. I've always wanted to build one...
Feel free to shoot me any questions you may have about RTTs and I will try to answer them. I'm not an expert on them but I certainly have spent a lot of time obsessing about them.
