Body Damage is Cool
Was doing some surfing the other day and came across a guy that had a header on his Sportage. I email him on what he was using and here is his reply:

[color:"blue"] My exhaust manifold is from a 94-02 mazda miata 1.8 liter bp four cylinder engine. You can find them on ebay fairly often. This is the factory manifold. It fits the kia head- but some modifications are required. A few of the bolt holes do not line up and need to be wallered out of redrilled. But - the ports line up perfectly- or pretty darn close. I've been using it for years and so have my friends- none of us have had any problems. It works well. I painted mine using some high temp ceramic paint from auto zone- I painted it with the engine running for the best result!
[/color]

It was one of those sites that you show your cars mods.

Anyway, hope this helps anyone wanting to improve their exhaust flow.

i am curious if this is a "close match" on the ports then if i were to water jet out myself a new exhaust flange, then cut the bp flange off how much work to weld the new flange onto the headers.

i may have to try this out.

Hi guys,

Aready mentioed in the horsepower post. You can buy brand new headers for the Sportage. They are made by an Australian company Genie. The headers are their cheaper version called wildcats.

Here is a link to their catalogue.

You can also find them on ebay.

Cheers, Chris

how nuch are the wildcat headers? couldnt find the price on the web site. and another question about the miata. Everet, your saying the stock manifold will fit so will a aftermarket header work to? i know you said alittle modification, but if thats the case you could modify the header for the miata to work to,and they also sell a turbo manifold also so in theory this might work?

I'm not saying anything, I posted a reply to an email sent to a guy that said he used one on his Sportage. He had pictures posted so I emailed him.
If it works...great...he appeared to be a straight shooter.
Try at your own risk.
What might be done is someone get a Miata exhaust gasket and a Sportage DOHC exhaust gasket and compare the two before a header is purchased. Autozone sells the Miata gasket for $16.00. Might be worth the try.

Need a Spot
Hi, Everet, how about the location of the oxigen sensors? My 2000 Sportage has one oxigen sensor on the manifold and another one downstream before the catalytic converter. Any info on this?

got the gaskets and the kia ports are a little bigger and the manifold or header would need some work to run smoothly with no turbulence from the part not lining up. [Linked Image]

so i don't know if i would do it unless your going to turbo it!!!! because turbo manifolds are dime a dozen for the miata.
first pic is the kia gasket on top of miata//second kia by itself and third miata
