Has anyone done the body lift with the automatic. Is there some mods needed for shifter? Also I would like to see what people have done for the LWB metal body-to-frame plate mods? Do you got some pics showing the triming around the 4wd selector?

my swb is an auto. with the 2in BL, my trans shifter was off by one letter. Easy fix tho. there is an adjustment bolt\bracket on the pass side of the trany for the linkage. Loosen it up, if the rig is already in park, move the shifter so it now reads it in park, tighten the bolt up and you are done. bolt moved about 1\2in. some have had to also cut some metal for the t-case shifter, but mine works fine as is.

Eli asked me to add my part of a build and add stuff for the LWB 1st gen Montero. I thought I would start out with what you get when you order the kit.
12x Spacers
12x 7/16in x 4.5in long (Grade 5)
12x Washers
12x Lock nuts

[Linked Image]

It is not bad set up but personally I want a strong hardware and keep everything metric. So I upgraded the hardware and accounted for the rear 2 bolts, I got longer ones.
10x 10m x 140mm (Grade 10.9)
2x 10m x 170mm (Grade 10.9)
24x Washers
12x Lock nuts

[Linked Image]

You can see that the metric bolts have a larger head which is a bonus. I will start taking pics of the procedure as I get started. Here is some of the mounting bolt locations. They are not hard to get to. The ones near the seat belt are annoying. This is only 10 of the 12 mounts.

2x mounts are located on the front frame beside the radiator. They seem to be different than the 2dr model. They are kinda annoying to get to and have some kind of paperlike tape covering the holes.

[Linked Image]
2x mounts are located in the front seat floor board on the driver and passenger side. All you need to do is remove the door seal.
[Linked Image]

2x mounts are located below the seat belt for the front seats. All you need to do is remove the casing around the seat belt.
[Linked Image]

2x mounts are located in a hole beside the rear cargo storage boxes. All you do is remove door seal and pull back the carpet around the storage boxes. Watch out for the nasty yellowish brown sticky stuff on the backside of the carpet.

2x mounts are located in the back corners of the cargo area. All you do is pull back the carpet and remove the trim at the rear door

Well We got the lift done and after reading the 2dr install I was expecting some difficulty. It took 3 hrs and it went smooth as butter. The rear mounting bolts in the tail lights are longer than the rest like the 2dr. Definitely the bolts need to be run from the bottom. You also do not need to worry about notching the rear bumper to fit the rear mount.

[Linked Image]

Here is the rear bracket that is mention thats on the 4dr. We just disconnected the bolt and eventually I will weld on an extended bracket so that the bolt can be reinstalled.

[Linked Image]

The fuel line bracket does not need to be messed with except for disconnecting this bracket.

[Linked Image]

The heater lines on the 3.0 seem to not need to be touched and had plenty of room during the lift.

[Linked Image]

The break lines are easy that the rear uncoils itself. The front needs to be bent a little to work itself through the rubber boot on the fender well.

[Linked Image]

As far as the shifters the auto shifter needed adjusted but the 4wd shifter really did not have to do anything and you can not really tell a difference.
Here is the overall result

Body Damage is Cool
I have received many questions about body lifts that I do not mind answering and between Eli's lift and mine pretty much everything is covered in some form. there are 3 questions that need to be asked to determine the correct route and procedure
1. Is your montero 2 door or 4 door?
2. Is your montero automatic or manual?
3. Does your montero have 4 cylinder or 6 cylinder engine?

2dr = DRaider90
4dr = RECON45
Auto = RECON45
Manual = DRaider90
4 cyl = DRaider90
6 Cyl = RECON45

Hope this helps out. Good Luck

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I have a 2001 montero sport 3.0L 4wd automatic and have been searching non-stop for info like this on doing a body lift on a sport. Close to a week now... It started with wanting to install 285/75 r16.

I have come to understand that Sports are quite different then the rest of the mistu family. Can anyone point me in the right direction. I have yet to come across a "sport" diy version. If it similar to this then perfect, great. I just want to know ahead of time what to look out for. smile

Also is 4crawler the only source for my vehicle? I can't seem to find a kit anywhere. Can I make my own? I keep seeing people speak of doing it themselves. but no particulars. Just getting longer bolts from a hardware store. Not info on the blocks themselves. Is there a place to buy the blocks whole and cut to your size?

The Montero Sport's frames are based on Mitsubishi's pickup chassis which isn't sold in N. America.

Yes, 4crawler is currently the only body lift kit source, however if you have a tablesaw or chop saw, and drill press you can make your own kit. Just count the number of body mounts, determine how high you want to go (2" seems to be max before you need to modify linkages in the transfercase shifter.

Then knowing that you just need to source the UHMW rods and proper grade bolts and nuts and build your own kit. easy peasy. On the otherhand, his kit isn't much more than doing it yourself and frankly since we have such few options in the US, I'd rather support a US aftermarket manufacturer so long as they're not too much as is the case when I looked at 4crawler before. Yes I have used his body lift kits in 2 of my rigs as well as used his rock skids too. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

I did my 3 inch body lift to my LS1 project for less than $80 buying the body blocks and hardware from a local performance shop (step up from advance auto lol). I need to buy the wider 3 inch blocks, I bought the 2 inch but am using them to hold the body until I am done my swap then I will bolt it down forever. It's not hard to find online suppliers for lift blocks. and hardware is as simple as going to a hardware store with grade 8 bolts.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Wanted to post back on what I did body lift wise on my 2001 Montero Sport XLS 4WD... 2 inches complete

Due to my time constraints I opted against 4crawler.

I opted to purchase my lift blocks from Summit. A. Summit is local and B. I do not have a drill press to accurately make my own. I was looking at the toyota kit I listed above... Well it was on back order till 1/19/15. So no go there. I wanted to do the lift over the Holiday. So instead I went with the individual body blocks, as they were in stock. For a total of 10 mounts on the 2001 Montero Sport:
6 of the 3inch diameter to go under the cab (A, B & C-Pillers) BB02 (2 H x3 OD) @ $9.97
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/pra-bb02
4 of the 2 inch diameter for the nose and tail mounts. Part numbers MB02 (2 H x2 OD) @ $7.97
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/pra-mb02

I then searched online and found a cheaper price. Summit will price match BTW.
Truckprousa.com had them for $4.99 (bb02)
http://truckprousa.com/i-6726582-performance-accessories-replacement-body-lift-spacer-bb02.html
and $3.99 (mb02)
http://truckprousa.com/i-6726548-performance-accessories-replacement-body-lift-spacer-mb02.html
= $45.90 plus $14.70 SH to my door.
Total $60.60

So Summit did the price match (factored in the shipping as if I ordered from Truckpro). The final price was $59.00 plus local taxes.
So my initial cost of 91.70 plus tax went down to $59.00 plus tax... NOT bad. smile and they were in stock!

So I took it slow and easy. 2 days later and had them installed.
(cleaning under and interior, plus 5 hours of hardware locating.... lots of theiving has happened of grade 8 bolts at the local stores. I had to go to 4 stores before I had enough.)

Now I can run the 285/75 r16s <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> If all goes according to plan I will get them tonight and have them installed tomorrow! smile Then I will know for sure if any trimming is needed. Worst case I might see if the mechanic doing the tires can do a little cranking on the Torsion bars to level the nose and tail. That might give a touch more clearance up front. smile

I took tons of pics and plan to do a write up in the near future to help those with all the questions I had when I started this process. Again its alot for someone who has zero experience with 4x4's or trucks period. I have lowered 3 cars, including a custom conversion to coil-overs, but have never raised anything. smirk I will link it when I get the write up done.
