ya my 2.6 has holes that are plunged up with the gasket too.

i talked to the dude that did my engine and head machining. he said that is important so that the coolant spends the correct amount of time in the head, and has the correct flow rate. and not to cut out the gasket. not sure of he was full of it or not but I've never had any cooling issues...
