No I wasn't The Man from U.N.C.L.E., I was the sidekick to The Man from U.N.C.L.E., the one with the hokey Mitteleuropa accent who was real cool. I even started smoking Galouise's, which tasted like paper wrapped street sweepings...

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Okay guys, thanks for Hi-Jacking the thread.

Now...back to it.

Here is the tool you need to hold your drive plate if you've removed your engine.
[Linked Image]

Here is the tool I made to hold the crankshaft pulley to loosen the crankshaft bolt.
[Linked Image]
[Linked Image]

It is a 3/16" x 2" - 3ft steel bar from Lowes ($10.50), the bolts are 7/16" x 1 1/2" stainless (1.50).

I used a 7/16" drill bit on the holes and a 1/3HP bench grinder on the void. Took me about an hour with a couple smoke breaks and BAM the crankshaft bolt was off with no problems.

Remember kiddies, short cuts can lead to problems. Not to say the other ways won't work also BUT use the right tool for the job or you will regret it immediately or eventually.

Nicely done. How far apart are the bolts? Can you also share the dimensions on trapezoid cutout you made into the bar stock?

TIA

Dimensions? We don't need no stinkin' dimensions.
Actually that's why I put the ruler in the photo.

Okie Day...here is a step by step to make your own crankshaft pulley holder tool (at least to get the holes right...the drilling and grinding is up to you).

And finally cut away the blue and tape to your steel bar...

Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

NOTE: The middle circle is your 22mm socket that you are using, NOT a 2" circle.

That is all. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

LOL, that's what happens when I'm multitasking... Great write-up. Thats far better than anything I was expecting. Will those photos be up long term and of not, can I copy them to my photo hosting site account?

I want to add this to the FAQ thread. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />
