There is a rubber type material ring that is between the inner hub and the outer surface of the pulley that is there to absorb "harmonics" If you pull it off with the type of puller that pulls on the outer edge, you run the risk of destroying the rubber dampening material and separating the two pieces.

Yea, thats the shear pin. Looks like you got it off, if so you'll need a new crankshaft sprocket. The new one will come with the shear pin. It also looks like the rubber material is cracked, probably from using a puller.

Here is the professionally made tool if you can find it.

Does a Mitsu part number exist for it? If so, it looks like you can buy the mitsu one here.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
thanks for pics...i do not get the tensioner?? i see the 2 little holes in it and i see the little tool from ebay. I am supposed to adjust this. how is adjustment done? when i tighten the tensioner pulley bolt to 17 pounds then why would i mess with the little holes? i am missing something. why would i temporarily tighten the tensioner pulley? if the grenade pin hasnt been pulled it fits like real easy. so whats this all about?

The hydraulic tensioner is not meant to take up any slack. That's why you have to use the special tool to pre-tension the timing belt. If you do it right, the grenade pin will come out with no resistance. If not properly pre-tensioned, then when the belt stretches, you may risk the hydraulic tensioner not being able to keep it tight enough.

thanks...i thought you were playing charades or a mean game of keep away...lol. after some thought i would have said this to the mechanic..the torque wrench goes on the 2 little holes with a special tool. not the bolt. is that right? then the bolt is turned until the right lbs/ft ? somehow my psychic ability to read minds ends when fellow mechanics change subjects...every chance they get.

take a break... here are the right words...the bolt is tightened down once the tension is set. and make sure the tensioner dont turn when you tighten the bolt down.requires a special tool..... elsewhere i have heard that needle nose plyers are used. if so then how is the tension set? the author did not even say th take a guess he just sed to use needle nose plyers. that threw me. back to the subject. i guess i could take a guess and use needle nose plyers. where do you get this tool in case i get all proffessional?

Yes if your in a pinch, you can use NNpliers. Fit the tips into the two holes and crank her to the right then tighten bolt. You do your final assesment of correct measure for tension by using the grenade pin after rotating the assembly 360. At that point either you got it or you did not, at which point you will have to do it over if pin did not go in. Which tool you use to get there weather or not its the Special tool or NNPliers wont matter if your good on your pin insertion at the end..The special tool will help you get there a lot easier though.

Need a Spot
Mitsu part number for the "End Yoke Holder" is MB990767
Mitsu part number for the "Pulley Holding Pins" is MD998715

The picture in the FSM is like the spring loaded on above, but the one pictured on the above referenced web site for purchase looks a lot like the one made by MCMILO
