Getting the Wheeling Fever
so i have an 88 yota pickup with efi 4 cylinder. at first i was only having problems when i was accelerating, then it started to act sort of like it was starving for fuel as i was at a steady speed on my way to work in the mornings only, now it has gotten to were it will barely start in the morning after fighting with it for a good 5 mins or so. gave it a lil shot of ether to help. i have checked my tps and afm and they checked out. what else should i check or has anyone else had this problem and knows what it is? please help.

When's the last time the fuel filter was changed? Start there.

Also give your oil dipstick a whiff. If it smells like fuel, you've got a leak somewhere that's depressurizing the rail.

Not sure if you have one problem or two, but if it starts easy with a shot of ether, you should check this out. Everything you want to know about cold start issues:

Getting the Wheeling Fever
ok so i have now changed my cold start injector and my tps and tried the jumper. the jumper blew a fuse in my main fuse box on the other side of the engine compartment. my truck will start right up in the morning then die. it will do that a good 4 to 5 times the idle time being longer each time then it will be long enough for me to start heading down the road, make it about 3 miles and die again. after i pop the clutch and get her going again she doesnt die the rest of my 40 mile trip to work. also now when i push my clutch in my truck idles high like i forgot to release the gas pedal for a few seconds then level out.

check out your TPS connection and test the TPS its self -- I had the same problems this summer on my 86 1 ton 22re and it was the TPS - it would take about6-8 tries to start and it would fire and run for just a few quick seconds -- also try unhooking the battery and clearing the computer -- and try restarting it, it should fire right up, but only for the 1st time then the code gets set again -- good luck ! web page
