Hey all, Looking for a dependable ride for my bro-in-law. Came across this on CL...and wanted to know...based on what you see ...is it a good deal? Link Link He doesn't need 4WD...but is looking for something dependable. He's a single Dad and he has 2 kids to tote around. Mods...if this isn't the right spot, feel free to delete. Thanks, Jim

That one prolly has been rode hard and put up wet! I'd far rather have one like this one.. http://austin.craigslist.org/ctd/1032364671.htmlBig JIm

Looks like fun; not a bad price. If he's not going to wheel it he needs to look at Honda and Toyota CARS.

Because he doesn't "wheel" he should drive a car? WTH is that about?
Nevermind. That is the kind of response I was afraid I'd get.

If he's a single dad with two kids and needs reliability, a Honda or Toyota would be a lot more reliable. I really like Cherokees, they are pretty relaible in my experience, but Honda's and Toyota's much more so. I'm sure their SUV things do very well too. But the way that's been set up leaves all kinds of potential problems that no one who isn't using it off road should need to deal with.

Looks nice XJ.... the only thing is that I do not understand why they took off the front driveshaft... if tranfer case and front differential is working fine you will be able to install one driveshaft and get 4WD...
I have owned 4 XJ in the past and actually have one XJ 1999 and it is awesome, no fails, just normal maintenance...

Maybe the vacuum axle actuator does not work.

How bout MAYBE the rear axle is a different ratio from the front and the shaft was taken out to keep ANYONE from using 4X4.. Big JIm
