I know this has been talked about but I can't find a posts.

I am getting ready to redo the exhaust on my 92 amigo 2.6L. IÆm going to do it in stainless and straiten it out.

What would be a better size? 2.25ö or 2.5ö The current size is 2ö.

How much difference in HP and TQ would there be between the two?

I know the bigger you go the less torque there will be. But I canÆt get any definitive info. IÆm going to use a PaceSetter header which exits at 2.5ö and a cut out that is also 2.5ö. After that I might neck down to, 2.25 ether before or after the new Cat.

Also, dose an exhaust tip do anything at all?
To sound, or power, or anything?

Any recommendations or info would be appreciated.

I don't remember what the final 'definitive' answer was, but I think that the 2.25 was considered sufficient for what there was. I would probably be inclined to go 2.5 to the cat and 2.25 from cat back, but I'm talking off way old memory here, so I'm sure someone else will hop in with better info.

As for tips, some will change tone and sound somewhat, but mostly they're glamour goodies, totally intended for looks.

When I re-did the exhaust on my 2.6 Trooper, I put on a free-flowing 2.25 system, cat back. Everything ahead of the cat is original. My buttometer tells me that I have slightly better response, better power.

If we're lucky somebody might come in with an actually technical answer.
