Getting the Wheeling Fever
Question: 1985 MITSUBISHI MONTERO 3000 MILES. My MONTY . Instead it idles around 2000 rpm. Also, it is a manual transmission and when I shift around 2500 or higher, the engine rpm remains high instead of going lower during the shift. everything looks good. I At this point, I am leaning towards a computer. Thanks for any advice. WILL EVERY BE OK IF I SHIFT AT LOWER GEARS? IVE ALSO NOTICED A LITTLE BOGGING SOMETIMES NOT ALOT.
THANKS FELLAHS YOU GUYS ALWAYS COME THROUGH!!!!! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/patriot.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

You've checked the return springs and 'freeness' of cable operation? Nothing behind the gas pedal? Choke plates are released? Check your mechanical things before you go after the electronics.

yup on the first part, and multiply that yup by a billion on the second.
disconnect your throttle cable and give a liberal schlacking of wd or your lube of choice and see if it frees it up. while your at it, hit the actuater as well.
ps, welcome to the wire.

huh? stick when warm?
ive used wd (yes, thats with a 40 behind it) on i dont know how many misc cables and ive never had a issue with them sticking because they got a little warm. imho, if its a sleeved cable it can be lubricated with it. if you have to lube it once, its not like you wont have to do it again as part of you prevent maintenance regardless of what you use.
btw, if your so concerned about sticking use crisco.

When you remove your air cleaner and look down the carb, you will see a round plate held to a shaft with a couple of screws. That is the throttle plate. One end of the shaft sticks through the carb and a cable is attached going to your gas pedal.Spray the shaft where it comes out of the carb and where your throttle cable is attached with WD40. I have never heard of WD causing sticking when warm. Try it. And do look for a return spring. If more help is needed you are at the right place......

You could spray some carb cleaner down the venturi while the engine is running to help free the choke plate if it's sticking.

Also, if you minimize the use of capitol letters, it won't appear as if you're 'yelling' your post(s). <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
