35's?

oops... sorry yes 35x12.5x15 km2's

I can see how the 1996 is better than say a 1999 as the gear ratio is better for 35's at 4:61 (on '96) Compared to 4:21 (on 1999). Something to think about.

Aftermarket rims (15x8 or 15x10 w/ 4" of backspacing), a 2" BL, and torque the torsion bars. I still get slight rubbing up front inner fender well (not worried about this) and on the rear most part of the lower plastic body molding under the rocker panels. Hoping a 2" spacer from a Toyota Sequoia will fix that, but if not I know a sawzall will.

I checked EBay. Didn't find a 2" BL. Safe to assume a different model is the same or you found someone who cares them?

How is the ride? I did the keys and torsion bar to my '04 Avalanche (before my suburban) and didn't like the ride after awhile. I did replace the shocks too with Bilstein 5100's. Did you replace the shocks?

Roger Brown makes the body lift or you can make it yourself. Think Ray has KYB's on his. I have the Bilsteins on my GenI. Either is an improvement unless you get one with the adjustables. If they're still in working order, they're the shizz.

Fasteddy's advice is occasionally sound...

For your first question, see the Body Lift thread in the How To section of the FAQ post for more details.

Ride's fine. Still using the stock 3 way adjustable shocks Mitsu had KYB build for them. Unfortunately the oem replacement will cost you your if the originals wear out but nobody else makes a decent adjustable shock for the Montero.

When these wear out, I'll either replace them with OEM originals or a set of non-adjustable KYB's.

In terms of the torsion bars you can either get a set of stock bars from the dealer or used from a salvage yard or aftermarket from a variety of sources (ARB, SwayAway, etc.)

Your a ton of information. Torsion bars in the front and coils in the rear I assume?

Electric hubs or manual hubs for 4x4?

Thanks

Several reasons... Been here a while. 4th Montero. Bored at work. 4x4wire is addicting. (not necessarily in that order) Bear in mind, I'm far from the sage here. There are many others that are WAY more technical and knowledgeable than I am on these rigs. You just haven't asked any 'hard' questions yet.

Yes.

No Hubs for the Gen 2/2.5
It has a Central Axle Disconnect (CAD) system. You can install manual hubs though to minimize wear on the front cv's/axles.

Body Damage is Cool
Don't worry about the gears on the late 90s monteros...swap in 4.900 gears into most Gen2s from a late 1990s-2000ish Montero sport(different body style-google it)
