Anything from Pelican is my personal favorite. Their "recoil LED" lights are simply amazing. Streamlight also has some great lights. Both companies supply alot of the fire service industry. I was issued a Streamlight 4AA, 9LED. It's about 7" long, the lens is maybe 1-1/4" diameter. Mounted to my helmet. The LED doesn't cut smoke like an incandescent does, but it is great for providing good working/walking light.

Given the choice for the money, it would be either of those.
