Who had the bumper template done in cardboard? Start measuring those pieces!

drawing smawing... i got pleanty of cocktail napkins and crayons .
you 2 better get alot more specific when it comes to our sketches. if you dont, seriously dude is gonna end up with a bunch of stick figures pointing to bumper ends and the a thingies that could one day be reinforced trailing arms.
like i said... the busket is all full of kittens, and kicked right over. questions...
does he need an idea? i got pleanty.
does he need a actuall sketch? how do i get it there?
does he need pics alond with the idea and a sketch of what were looking for? i got big ideas for an ejector seat... been having nightmares of the moab rim trail.
mods? bueller? anyone?

I use Pro/engineer 99% of the time but I have access to AutoCAD at home. Pro/Engineer is a 3D mechanical modeling and engineering package. Usually I don't have to set lead in or out lines for CNC plasma cutters for the vendors that I work with.. at least they have never asked for it. Usually they just ask for flat patterns in DXF format that they generate their G-code from.

Yes, I can do full sets of blue prints that a fab shop can use. And, since they would be in full 3D I can create any view from any angle that would need to be seen.

I miss PRO E .... Current job its Solid Works. Works pretty well but I was brought up on PRO E.

Good stuff,

Kevin

but if your not busy right now... what you got in mind for a spare tire, fuel can & high lift mounts? mabey all in one when the spare carrier goes on the read door .

Actually I have been thinking about that since I want to make one for my genI. If I ever get it back and am able to start working on the design I will let you guys know.

But what I was getting at was that if YOU already had a design for something and all you had were hand sketches I could take those and refine them for you...

Exactly what I am talking about.

So if you have an idea.. say such as a bumper that is made from bent tubing that you want to take to a fabricator to have bent. If you can supply me with the dimensions (lengths between bends, bend angles etc.) I can create the drawings. I obviously can not design something for you for a vehicle that I do not have So the more information the better. E-mail is cdl1701@yahoo.com

Once I get my genI back you will probably start to see some stuff for it. Here is a list of the stuff I plan on designing for mine.
Definite:
Swing out gas can/highlift attachment for the rear bumper.
Gas tank skid plate
Front end skid plate
Rocker panel protection

Maybe:
Front and rear bumper.

I want to keep mine looking stock so not sure what I am going to do with the bumpers yet.

You know that wont last long Chris I never thought I would do what I did to my Montero, but as you can see, it happened Cool ideas you got there. I've been wanting to do a rear bumper for the longest time and I'd love to do the carboard cut out. Simpliest way to see what it will look like without metal involved. I'll have to do that when the weather warms up. Thanks man,
Angelo

I had a design I created in IDEAS (another 3D CAD system), but never really finished the details. We've since switched to NX so maybe I'll redo it and finish it this time.

<continued hijack> i guess that could decribe it. but then agian, its all about the "fish boots"... and dont even get going on why the busket is always full of kittens . <end continued hijack... at least for now>

Any experience with generating a profile perimeter length on a flat part? My work is currently switching over to Pro E from SolidWorks and that is one thing I am missing in the changeover. We had a macro in SolidWorks that would calculate the "cut length" and put it on the part prints. I use that number to calculate run times on our laser and plasma equipment.

I haven't been formally trained in either Pro E or SolidWorks, but I picked up SolidWorks a lot easier.

Never have tried to put it into a parameter but I don't see why it could not be done to place onto the drawing. Usually we just supply dxf flat pattern drawing to our suppliers based off of information that they have given us. In order for pro/e to calculate a correct flat pattern you will need to know the bend deduct that you use with your bending machine. Then using the formula found HERE
to get the K-factor that you input into pro you will get an exact flat pattern. The key is to remember to use the flat pattern command and not unbend. Unbend does not take into account the stretching that occurs when bending.

I am out of work for a few weeks with back surgery but when I get back I can look into placing that into a parameter that can be called on for notes.
